Frequently asked questions

What is BMI?

BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared: BMI = kg ÷ m². At 70 kg and 175 cm, 70 ÷ 1.75² = 22.9 after rounding to one decimal place. It is a screening measure, not a direct measurement of body fat.

What is a healthy BMI range?

For adults aged 20 and older, this calculator uses CDC categories: below 18.5 underweight; 18.5 to below 25 healthy range; 25 to below 30 overweight; 30 or above obesity, including class 3 (severe obesity) at 40 or above. It classifies the displayed BMI rounded to one decimal place. Asian mode adds the WHO consultation action points 23, 27.5, 32.5 and 37.5; these markers do not replace the standard categories.

Calculations stay in your browser. Analytics may record page and interaction events, but the masked calculator prevents entered health values from being recorded.

What is TDEE?

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total number of calories your body burns in a day, including your basal metabolic rate (BMR) plus calories burned through physical activity.
